Man Killed in Houston Pedestrian Accident on North Freeway and Rittenhouse

Houston, Texas (October 20, 2023) – A man died after he was struck by a vehicle early Friday morning in Houston, police said.

The crash occurred at about 1:00 a.m. on the North Freeway and Rittenhouse, just before Little York.

According to the police, the man got into an argument with an Uber driver. The Uber driver pulled over on the side of the freeway, and the man got out and walked down the embankment.

The man then attempted to cross the street, where there was no sidewalk or crosswalk, and was hit by another vehicle.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not been released pending notification of next of kin.

The driver that hit the man fled the scene but later returned and was booked into jail. Authorities determined that the driver was not intoxicated at the time of the accident.

The crash remains under investigation.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

There are many different reasons why automobile, pedestrian, 18-wheeler, bicycle, and motorcycle accidents occur, including driver negligence, driver inattention, texting and driving, speeding, fatigue, failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign, or private drive, running a red light, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. While the factors listed above are the main causes of most accidents, there may also be other factors involved, which is why it’s important that an investigation be conducted before evidence disappears, especially in cases involving a fatality.  At Joel A. Gordon & Associates, we will act quickly to secure accident scene photos, interview witnesses, obtain police records, and secure other valuable evidence needed to win your case.  Call now for a free consultation.
