Hudspeth County, Texas (July 17, 2021) – One person was killed, and another was injured Friday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash in Hudspeth County, according to the Texas DPS.

The fatal crash happened around 12:19 p.m., July 16, on Interstate 10 at milepost 104, three miles west of Sierra Blanca.

DPS said Ricardo Valdez, 47, of Tornillo, was driving a 1996 Peterbilt semi-truck towing a dump trailer westbound on the I-10 frontage road. He failed to yield while turning right, and the trailer was struck by a 2018 Kia Sportage SUV that was traveling eastbound on the frontage road.

The SUV driver, Maribel Aguirre, 36, of Fort Hancock, was pronounced dead at the scene. She was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

Valdez sustained non-life-threatening injuries in the crash.

Authorities said conditions were clear and dry at the time of the crash.

The Texas Highway Patrol troopers are investigating the crash.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

While there are many causes of car accidents, the most common reasons of driver negligence include driver inattention; cell phone use; texting and driving; speeding; fatigue; failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign or private drive; running a red light; and driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs,” Attorney Joel A. Gordon said. Mr. Gordon believes that an independent investigation is important. An Attorney will help obtain the crash report, secure accident photos, interview witnesses, and create a claim.
