Martin Lopez Killed in El Paso Three-Vehicle Crash on Spur 601

El Paso, Texas (September 20, 2021) – One person was killed Saturday morning in a three-vehicle crash in east El Paso, according to the police.

The fatal crash happened around 7:00 a.m., September 18, on Spur 601 westbound near exit 21.

Police said Martin Telesforo Lopez, 74, of El Paso, was driving a pickup truck when it broke down along the roadway. The pickup was then rear-ended by a car. The force of the impact pushed the pickup truck into another pickup that had stopped in front of it to help.

Lopez was killed in the crash.

The crash closed westbound Spur 601 between the Chafee on-ramp and Sgt Major on-ramp. Traffic was diverted to Global Reach or Airport. Motorists were urged to avoid the area.

The crash remains under investigation.
