Mary Crockett Killed in Smith County Two-vehicle Crash on State Highway 31 East at County Road 2212

Smith County, Texas – One person was killed and four others were injured Tuesday evening in a two-vehicle crash in Smith County, according to the Texas DPS.

The fatal crash happened around 5:50 p.m., January 9, on State Highway 31 East at County Road 2212.

DPS said Mary L. Crockett, 55, of Tyler, was driving northbound on County Road 2212 and was attempting to turn westbound on SH 31 when he collided with another vehicle.

Crockett was pronounced dead at the scene.

Four people in the other vehicle, a 40-year-old woman, a 20-year-old woman, a 12-year-old boy and a 1-year-old girl were taken to a local hospital with non-incapacitating injuries. All occupants were wearing seat belts.

The road conditions were dry and clear at the time of the crash. The posted speed limit in this area is 60 mph.

The crash remains under investigation.
