Gary Smith, Susan Smith Among 4 Injured in Sabine County Crash on U.S. Highway 96 near Bill Lowe Drive

Sabine County, Texas (April 16, 2022) – Gary Smith, 65, and Susan Smith, 65, were among four people who were injured in a two-vehicle crash Friday afternoon south of Pineland in Sabine County, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The collision happened at around 2:50 p.m. on April 15 on U.S. Highway 96, just south of Bill Lowe Drive.

The DPS said a 2021 Chevrolet SUV was traveling southbound on U.S. Highway 96 when it rear-ended a 2015 GMC pickup that was attempting to turn left into a private drive.

The driver of the pickup, Gary Smith, and his passenger, Susan Smith, were taken to Hemphill County Hospital with unspecified injuries.

The driver and passenger of the SUV were taken to Jasper Memorial Hospital in unknown condition.

No further details about the crash were immediately provided.

The accident remains under investigation.
