Mauro Mendoza Santos Killed in San Antonio Pedestrian Crash on Highway 281

San Antonio, Texas – A 63-year-old man was killed Thursday night after being hit in a multi-vehicle crash in San Antonio, according to the police.

The deadly accident happened around 9:00 p.m., March 21, in the 4500 block of Highway 281 southbound, near Hildebrand Avenue and Olmos Park.

Police said the man parked his red Ford F-350 behind a black Dodge Dart on the right shoulder of the main lanes of the highway and was helping a 52-year-old man replace a flat tire on his Dodge Dart.

A silver Toyota 4Runner was traveling southbound when an unidentified vehicle drifted into its lane, causing it to veer to the right. The 4Runner was approaching the crest of a hill, which reduced the driver’s view, causing it to rear-end a trailer that was attached to the Ford F-350. This caused the driver of the 4Runner to lose control and also hit the driver-side rear panel of the Dodge Dart. The Dodge Dart then did a quarter rotation and hit a black Mazda 5. The 4Runner did a full clockwise rotation, and hit the man, forcing him off the bridge.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene. He has been identified as Mauro Mendoza Santos, according to the Bexar County Medical Examiner.

The driver of the Dodge Dart was taken to a local hospital with abdominal injuries.

The driver of the Toyota 4Runner was evaluated and was found not to be intoxicated.

The authorities are investigating the crash.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

There are many different reasons why automobile, pedestrian, 18-wheeler, bicycle, and motorcycle accidents occur, including driver negligence, driver inattention, texting and driving, speeding, fatigue, failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign, or private drive, running a red light, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. While the factors listed above are the main causes of most accidents, there may also be other factors involved, which is why it’s important that an investigation be conducted before evidence disappears, especially in cases involving a fatality.  At Joel A. Gordon & Associates, we will act quickly to secure accident scene photos, interview witnesses, obtain police records, and secure other valuable evidence needed to win your case.  Call now for a free consultation.
