Michael L. Zuniga Killed in Upton County Two-Vehicle Crash on U.S. Highway 67

Upton County, Texas (July 12, 2021) – One person was killed, and two others were injured Thursday morning in a head-on collision in Upton County, according to the Texas DPS.

The fatal crash happened around 8:35 a.m., July 8, on U.S. Highway 67, about seven miles west of Rankin.

DPS said Michael L. Zuniga, 36, of McCamey, Texas, was driving a Chevrolet pickup eastbound on the highway while a semi-truck was traveling westbound.

For an unknown reason, the Chevrolet entered the westbound lane and crashed head-on into the semi-truck.

Zuniga was killed in the crash.

The driver and passenger of the semi-truck driver were taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The troopers are investigating the crash.
