Mike Martinez Killed and Brenda Injured in Houston Two-Vehicle Crash on SH 249 near Breen Drive

Houston, Texas (September 9, 2021) – According to the authorities, a man was killed, and a woman was seriously injured on Friday in a two-vehicle crash involving an intoxicated driver in northwest Houston.

The fatal crash happened around 12:50 p.m., September 3, in the 11600 block of State Highway 249, near Breen Drive.

Authorities said a man was driving a pickup truck southbound at a high rate of speed when he failed to maintain a single lane, crossed into the northbound lane, and struck a Chevrolet Trailblazer that was stopped at a red light.

The male passenger in the Chevrolet, Mike Martinez, 36, was pronounced dead at the scene. His wife, Brenda, who was the driver, was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. A  GoFundMe has been set up to help with funeral and medical expenses.

The pickup driver, Donnovan Garcia, was found to have been intoxicated at the time of the crash. He was arrested and was out of jail within hours on a $60,000 bond. 

The crash remains under investigation.
