Miranda Smallwood, Joel Wilson and Kara Wilson Among 6 Hospitalized after Nacogdoches County Crash on FM 1638

Nacogdoches County, Texas (February 13, 2023) – Miranda Smallwood, 34, Joel Wilson, 34, and Kara Wilson, 38, were among six people who were hospitalized following a traffic crash that left a child dead Wednesday morning in Nacogdoches County, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The wreck took place on FM 1638 on Wednesday, February 8.

DPS said a 2014 Volkswagen Passat, driven by Smallwood, was heading northbound on FM 1638 when the Volkswagen veered into the opposite lane and collided with a 2021 Cadillac Escalade that was traveling southbound, driven by Wilson.

Wilson turned left to avoid a collision, but at the same time, Smallwood drove back into her lane. Both vehicles collided head-on.

Smallwood was taken to a local hospital to be treated for her injuries. Her 2-year-old passenger was pronounced dead on the scene.

Wilson and his passenger, Kara Wilson, and three children, ages two, one, and an infant. All five were taken to a local hospital.

Further details regarding the collision were immediately provided.

The crash remains under investigation.
