Monica Arthur Killed and Jaidon Gentry Injured in Gregg County Two-Vehicle Crash on State Highway 149 at Younger Road

Gregg County, Texas (May 16, 2023) – One person was killed, and another was injured Sunday afternoon following a two-vehicle crash in Gregg County, according to the Texas DPS.

The fatal crash happened around 1:30 p.m., May 14, at the intersection of State Highway 149 and Younger Road, 8.5 miles southwest of Longview.

DPS said a 2000 Honda Accord was traveling westbound on SH 149 while a 2005 Chevrolet Avalanche was traveling eastbound on the highway. The Avalanche began to turn onto Younger Road and failed to yield the right of way to the Accord, resulting in a collision.

The Accord driver, Monica E. Arthur, 53, of Tatum, was taken to Christus Good Shepherd Hospital in Longview, where she was pronounced dead. She was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

The Avalanche driver, Jaidon J. Gentry, 20, of Longview, was taken to Longview Regional Hospital in Longview with non-incapacitating injuries. She was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

The DPS is investigating the crash.
