Daniel Valenzuela Jr., Daniel Valenzuela Sr., and Andrea Uvalle Killed in San Antonio Two-Vehicle Crash on Loop 1604 and Culebra Road

San Antonio, Texas (September 27, 2021) – According to the authorities, three family members, including a West Texas police sergeant, were killed early Sunday morning in a two-vehicle crash involving a suspected drunken driver in San Antonio’s far West Side.

The fatal crash happened around 1:30 a.m., September 26, at the intersection of Loop 1604 and Culebra Road.

Authorities said Daniel Valenzuela Jr., 37, was driving northbound on the 1604 access road and had a green light at the intersection, while Elijah James Montalvo, 17, was driving eastbound at a high rate of speed and didn’t have a green light.

Montalvo crashed into Valenzuela Jr’s vehicle at the intersection.

Valenzuela Jr., who was a police sergeant, had three family members in his vehicle at the time of the crash.

Valenzuela Jr. and two of his passengers, his father, 69-year-old Daniel Valenzuela Sr., and his grandmother Andrea Uvalle, 84, were all killed in the crash. The other passenger, a woman, was taken to a local hospital and was listed in stable condition.

Montalvo was taken to a local hospital for evaluation and was later booked into jail on three counts of intoxication manslaughter, three counts of manslaughter, intoxication assault, and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

The crash remains under investigation.
