Motorcyclist Killed After Police Chase Ends in Crash on Research Forest Drive in Magnolia

26-Year-Old Man Killed in Magnolia Crash on Research Forest Drive and FM 2978

Magnolia, Texas (July 6, 2022) – A motorcyclist was killed after a high-speed police pursuit ended in a crash in Magnolia on Tuesday night, according to authorities.

The fatal crash happened around 10:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 5, at the intersection of Research Forest Drive and FM 2978.

Authorities said a Precinct 5 constable deputy was on routine patrol on Hardin Store Road at Anderson when he saw a Kawasaki motorcycle traveling at 20 miles per hour, exceeding the speed limit.

The constable deputy turned on his lights to try to pull the motorcycle, but the rider sped off, and a pursuit began. The motorcyclist headed northbound on Hardin Store and at times reaching 130 mph.

As the motorcyclist approached FM 2978, he turned northbound and accelerated again. The chase ended after the motorcyclist hit the front of a passenger car that was pulling out onto FM 2978 from Forest Drive.

The rider was thrown off the bike upon the impact. The motorcycle crossed all lanes of FM 2978 and ended up in the parking lot of a business.

The motorcyclist, whose name was being withheld pending notification of next of kin, was pronounced dead at the scene.

No further details were provided.

The crash remains under investigation.
