Myron Liggins Killed in San Marcos Hit-and-Run Crash on Interstate 35

Myron Liggins ID’d as Victim in Fatal San Marcos Car Crash on Interstate 35

San Marcos, Texas (April 26, 2022) – Police have identified the person who died early Monday morning following a hit-and-run crash in San Marcos as Myron Liggins, 54.

The deadly crash occurred shortly after 1:30 a.m. on April 25 in the southbound lane of Interstate 35 near mile marker 210, according to the San Marcos Police Department.

First responders arrived at the scene and found a white Chevrolet truck on its roof in the southbound lanes. The truck driver allegedly fled the accident scene on foot after the truck came to a rest on its roof.

The truck was then hit by a gray Honda Accord driven by Liggins. The impact caused the Honda to veer off the roadway and strike large highway sign.

Liggins, who was sole occupant of the Honda, died at the scene.

A third vehicle, described as a sedan, was also involved in the crash, but the driver of that vehicle was not injured.

Police used a drone to search the area for the driver of the Chevrolet truck. The driver, Rodolfo Lopez Jr., 34, of Buda, was located in a nearby parking lot.

Lopez was booked at the Hays County jail on charges of intoxication manslaughter and accident involving causing death. His bail was set at $75,000.

Police closed Interstate 35 for about five and a half hours as the San Marcos Police Department Collision Investigation Team investigated the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

There are many different reasons why automobile, 18-wheeler, and motorcycle accidents occur, including driver negligence, driver inattention, texting and driving, speeding, fatigue, failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign or private drive, running a red light, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. While the factors listed above are the main causes of most accidents, there may also be other factors involved, which is why it’s important that an investigation be conducted before evidence disappears, especially in cases involving a fatality.  At Joel A. Gordon & Associates, we will act quickly to secure accident scene photos, interview witnesses, obtain police records, and secure other valuable evidence needed to win your case.  Call now for a free consultation.
