Nathaniel Ruiz Injured in Pedestrian Crash on Slide Road in Lubbock

Nathaniel Ruiz Injured in Lubbock Pedestrian Accident on Slide Road at South Loop 289

Lubbock, Texas (August 23, 2021) – One person was killed, and two others were injured early Thursday morning in a crash involving two vehicles and a pedestrian in Lubbock, according to the police.

The fatal crash happened just before 12:45 a.m., August 19, at the intersection of Slide Road and South Loop 289.

Police said Timothy Andrew Gonzalez, 30, was driving a Ford F-550 southbound in the 6100 block of Slide Road, while Alexus Jackson, 20, was driving a Jeep Grand Cherokee westbound in the 5100 block of the South Loop 289 access road. Nathaniel Ruiz, 21, was walking along the sidewalk in between Slide Road and the turn-around lane for the South Loop 289 access road.

The Ford then struck the Jeep at the intersection. Debris from the crash then struck Ruiz.

Gonzalez fled the scene on foot, heading northbound after the crash. 

Kashara Jackson, 17, who was a passenger in the Jeep, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Alexus was taken to UMC with moderate injuries.

Ruiz sustained moderate injuries.

Gonzalez was later arrested and taken into custody. He was booked into the Lubbock County Detention Center for intoxication manslaughter, failure to stop and render aid, and evading.

The Lubbock Police Department’s Major Crash Unit is investigating the crash.
