Norma Brunt, Michelle Johnson, Enrique Martinez, and Kelsee Johnson Injured in Fatal Crosby County Crash on U.S Highway 62/82 near Lorenzo

Crosby County, Texas (September 6, 2022) – One person was killed and four other people were injured in a traffic collision Monday afternoon in Crosby County, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The crash was reported shortly after 3:00 p.m. Monday, September 5, on U.S Highway 62/82, just east of Lorenzo.

DPS said Enrique J. Martinez, 38, of Floydada, was driving eastbound on U.S Highway 62/82 when, for an unknown reason, his Honda CRV drifted onto the shoulder of the roadway and struck the rear end of a Hyundai Tuscon that was legally parked on the shoulder of the road facing eastbound.

William Reese Brunt, Jr., 71, who was the driver of the Tuscon, was pronounced dead at the scene. His three passengers, Norma Davis Brunt, 64, of Fairfield, Michelle Johnson, 55, of Lancaster, and Kelsee Chanelle Johnson, 18, of Lancaster,  were transported to University Medical Center in Lubbock with serious injuries.

Martinez  was taken to Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock with non-incapacitating injuries.

Road conditions were dry and clear at the time of the crash. The posted speed limit at 75 miles per hour.

DPS is investigating the accident.
