Off-Duty Mansfield Police Officer Seriously Injured in Johnson County Motorcycle Crash on FM 2738 near CR 505

Johnson County, Texas (February 4, 2021) – An off-duty Mansfield police officer was seriously injured Tuesday morning in a motorcycle crash in Johnson County, according to police.

The crash happened shortly after 6:30 a.m., February 2, on FM 2738, south of CR 505.

According to a preliminary investigation, a white 2016 Chevrolet Silverado pickup was traveling southbound on the highway behind a school bus while a black 2013 Harley Davidson motorcycle was traveling northbound. A silver 2012 Nissan Rogue SUV was also traveling northbound behind the motorcycle.

The Chevrolet veered into the northbound lane to pass the school bus, in a no-passing zone, and struck the motorcycle and the Nissan.

The motorcycle came to rest in the eastbound ditch. The Chevrolet slid off the roadway into the eastbound ditch where it rolled over multiple times. The Nissan came to rest in the roadway facing eastbound.

The motorcycle rider, an off-duty officer, was airlifted to John Peters Smith Hospital in Fort Worth with a life-threatening leg injury.

The Nissan driver, a passenger, and an infant, both from Alvarado, were uninjured in the crash.

The Chevrolet driver refused treatment at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
