Officer Alan McCollum Killed, Officer Michael Love Injured in Corpus Christi Crash on State Highway 358 at Carroll Lane

Corpus Christi, Texas (February 2, 2020) – A Corpus Christi Police officer was killed, and another was injured Friday night in a traffic accident in Corpus Christi, according to the police.

The deadly accident happened around 9:43 p.m. on January 31, on State Highway 358 at Carroll Lane.

Police said Officer Alan McCollum, Officer Michael Love, and a third unidentified officer, were conducting a traffic stop on a vehicle under suspicion of racing.

The officers were out of their marked units when Brandon Portillo, 26, hit the officers and their cars.

Officer McCollum was killed in the crash. Officer Love is undergoing treatment at the hospital.

Portillo was arrested and has been charged with intoxication manslaughter, intoxication assault and driving with a suspended license.

The crash remains under investigation.
