Police Officer Injured in Fort Worth Car Crash on Lake Worth Bridge near Northwest Loop 820

Fort Worth, Texas (June 19, 2022) – A Fort Worth police officer was injured Friday night after an intoxicated driver struck their patrol vehicle in Fort Worth, according to the police.

The crash happened around 8:00 p.m., on June 17, on the Lake Worth Bridge, near Northwest Loop 820 and Cahoba Drive.

Police said the officer was helping a stranded motorist in a southbound traffic lane and was behind the disabled vehicle in a patrol car that had its emergency lights on, to alert other drivers to the lane closure.

The patrol vehicle was then rear-ended by a pickup truck, sending it across four lanes of traffic where it struck a passing vehicle before crashing into a concrete barrier.

The officer was taken to the hospital in unknown condition.

The pickup driver was also taken to the hospital, and charges will be filed against them if they are determined to have been intoxicated.

The passing driver was uninjured in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

There are many different reasons why automobile, 18-wheeler, and motorcycle accidents occur, including driver negligence, driver inattention, texting and driving, speeding, fatigue, failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign or private drive, running a red light, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. While the factors listed above are the main causes of most accidents, there may also be other factors involved, which is why it’s important that an investigation be conducted before evidence disappears, especially in cases involving a fatality.  At Joel A. Gordon & Associates, we will act quickly to secure accident scene photos, interview witnesses, obtain police records, and secure other valuable evidence needed to win your case.  Call now for a free consultation.
