Armando De La Cruz Fatally Hit by 18-Wheeler on I-35 in Austin

Armando De La Cruz Killed in Austin Pedestrian Accident on Interstate 35

Austin, Texas (November 4, 2020) – The man who was fatally hit by an 18-wheeler on October 21 in Austin has been identified as Armando De La Cruz, 33, according to police.

The deadly accident happened just after 3:00 a.m. in the 7400 block of North Interstate 35.

Police said a 2009 18-wheeler semi was traveling northbound in one of the inside lanes when the driver moved over for an APD vehicle. The APD vehicle had its lights activated and was responding to a pedestrian who had been seen walking against the inside concrete barrier.

De La Cruz sprinted eastbound into the path of the 18-wheeler and was struck.

De La Cruz was pronounced dead at the scene.

The semi-truck driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.
