Retired Converse Police Assistant Rodney Rheiner Killed, Son Injured in San Antonio Car Crash at Nacogdoches Road and Friesenhahn Court

San Antonio, Texas (March 11, 2020) – A retired assistant chief of Converse Police was killed, and his son was critically injured Tuesday night in a suspected DWI crash in San Antonio, according to the police.

The deadly crash occurred around 9:30 p.m., March 10, at the intersection of Nacogdoches Road and Friesenhahn Court.

Police said Jeanne-Nicole Coutros was driving a Toyota Tacoma erratically when an SAPD officer saw her and tried to pull her over.

Coutros reportedly stopped abruptly in the left lane but then sped away as the officer was getting out of his patrol unit.

The officer then pursued Coutros until she crashed into another vehicle driven by a 24-year-old man at the intersection.

The man and his father, retired assistant chief of Converse Police Rodney Rheiner, 59, were rushed to the hospital, where Rheiner later died.

The son had life-threatening injuries.

Coutros was arrested and taken into custody on suspicion of Driving While Intoxicated. She is facing intoxication manslaughter charges.

The crash remains under investigation.

We pass our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Rodney Rheiner.

In Texas, a driver is legally intoxicated after consuming alcohol if their blood alcohol content (BAC) is .08% or higher. A driver is also considered intoxicated if they don’t have the normal use of their mental or physical faculties by reason of the introduction of alcohol. Alcohol, however, is not the only intoxicant, as drivers can become intoxicated by ingesting prescription and illegal drugs such as crack, marijuana, and cocaine.

Regardless of what substance caused the driver’s reaction time to become significantly altered, intoxication by any means can cause terrible accidents and injuries.

Innocent victims harmed by drunk drivers are entitled to compensation for their injuries, including but not limited to medical expenses; lost wages; pain and suffering and mental anguish; physical impairment and disability; and most importantly, punitive damages to deter future conduct. If a death occurred because of a drunk driver, you will want a knowledgeable accident lawyer to bring a wrongful death action against the drunk driver.
