Richard Reis, Fritz Hoeflein Killed in 2-Vehicle Crash on Hwy 281 in Jack County

Richard Reis and Fritz Hoeflein Killed in Jack County Two-Vehicle Crash on Highway 281

Jack County, Texas (April 9, 2023) – Two people were killed Friday evening in a two-vehicle crash in Jack County, according to the Texas DPS.

The fatal crash happened on April 7, on Highway 281 and 114 split.

DPS said Jose Duran of Athens, Texas, was driving northbound on the highway when he failed to yield right of way and struck a southbound vehicle driven by Richard Reis of Iowa Park.

Reis and one of his passengers, Fritz Hoeflein of Lake Kiowa, were killed in the crash. The other occupant in Reis’ vehicle was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Duran was transported to a local hospital and later arrested for driving while intoxicated. He is facing two possible counts of intoxication manslaughter.

The crash remains under investigation.
