Rodrigo Talavera and Mitchel Kennedy Killed in Smith County Two-Vehicle Crash on FM 2661

Smith County, Texas (May 6, 2023) – Two people were killed Tuesday morning in a two-vehicle crash in Smith County, according to the Texas DPS.

The fatal crash happened around 7:55 a.m., May 2, on FM 2661, 5.5 miles northeast of Coffee City.

DPS said Rodrigo Talavera, 43, of Tyler, was driving northbound when he failed to drive in a single lane and veered into the southbound lane, where his vehicle collided with a southbound 2016 Ram 1500 driven by Mitchel L. Kennedy, 61, of Winona.

Talavera and Kennedy were both pronounced dead at the scene. They were both wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash.

The Texas DPS is investigating the crash.
