Shawn Francis Killed and Teffeni Martinez Injured in Gray County Motorcycle Crash on SH 152

Gray County, Texas (September 8, 2021) – According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, one person was killed, and another was injured Sunday morning in a motorcycle crash in Gray County.

The fatal crash happened around 3:35 a.m., September 5, on SH 152, four miles west of Pampa.

DPS said Shawn Francis, 46, of Fritch, was riding a 2005 Harley Davidson motorcycle westbound on the highway while Andrews Martinez, 48, of Pampa, was driving a 2020 Toyota passenger car behind Francis.

Martinez failed to control his speed and crashed into the back of the motorcycle. The impact pushed the motorcycle off the roadway and into a ditch, ejecting both Francis and his passenger, Teffeni Martinez, 42, of Pampa.

Francis was pronounced dead at the scene.

Teffeni Martinez was taken to Amarillo Northwest Texas Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

No other details were provided.

The Texas Highway Patrol Troopers are investigating the crash.

Most motorcycle crashes are caused by negligent drivers who don’t keep a proper lookout or fail to yield the right-of-way. Because motorcyclists are vulnerable, their injuries are usually severe, often suffering from road rash, broken bones, brain injuries, amputations, or spinal cord injuries. In some cases, the accident results in death.
