Stephen Nagel and Kathleen Nagel Seriously Injured in Orange County Multi-Vehicle Crash on Interstate 10

Orange County, Texas (May 21, 2020) – Two people were seriously injured Wednesday morning in a wrong-way crash in Orange County, according to the DPS.

The crash occurred around 7:30 a.m., May 20, on Interstate 10, near the Travel Information Center.

DPS said 59-year-old Stephen Nagel of Sulphur, Louisiana, was driving a 2017 Jeep SUV westbound on the interstate and was being followed by a 2017 Dodge pickup truck towing an enclosed trailer.

29-year-old Amy Freeman of Opelousas, Louisiana, was driving a 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe eastbound in the westbound traffic lanes when she crashed head-on into the Jeep and then hit the trailer of the Dodge.

The force of the impact caused the Chevrolet to spin into the concrete barrier.

Stephen and his passenger, Kathleen Nagel, 63, were taken to St. Elizabeth hospital with serious injuries.

The Dodge driver, Yadier Rivero of Katy, was uninjured in the crash.

Freeman and her two minor children were uninjured in the crash. She claimed that she was attempting to return to Louisiana and entered the freeway near Simmons Drive.

Alcohol was an unlikely factor in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.

We hope Stephen Nagel and Kathleen Nagel recover quickly.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

While there are many causes of car accidents, the most common reasons of driver negligence include driver inattention; cell phone use; texting and driving; speeding; fatigue; failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign or private drive; running a red light; and driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs,” Attorney Joel A. Gordon said. Mr. Gordon believes that an independent investigation is important. An Attorney will help obtain the crash report, secure accident photos, interview witnesses, and create a claim.
