Trooper Injured in Stolen Ambulance Crash at I-35 and FM 133 in La Salle County

Trooper Hospitalized After La Salle County Stolen Ambulance Crash at I-35 and FM 133

La Salle County, Texas (May 8, 2021) – A DPS trooper was injured Friday afternoon after a stolen ambulance crashed into a DPS unit in La Salle County, according to the authorities.

The crash happened around 12:34 p.m., May 7, at the intersection of I-35 and FM 133.

Authorities said Texas DPS received a call from the Webb County Sheriff’s Office about an Angel Care Ambulance Service unit that was stolen from the tourist center on mile marker 18 of I-35.

An Encinal Police Department officer saw the stolen ambulance heading northbound on I-35 and tried to stop it, but the driver sped away, and a pursuit ensued.

The suspect then intentionally crashed into a marked Texas Department of Public Safety unit at the intersection.

The DPS trooper was airlifted to a San Antonio hospital for treatment.

The driver was arrested and taken to the hospital for treatment.

No further details were provided.

The DPS is investigating the crash.
