Tyler Chester Killed, Wilma Lane Injured in Head-On Crash on SH 19 in Hopkins County

Tyler Chester Killed and Wilma Lane Injured in Hopkins County Two-Vehicle Crash on State Highway 19

Hopkins County, Texas (April 24, 2022) – One person was killed, and another was injured on March 5 in a head-on collision in Hopkins County, according to the Texas DPS.

The fatal crash happened around 10:00 p.m., on State Highway 19, about five miles south of Interstate 30.

DPS said 27-year-old Tyler Chester of Sulphur Springs was driving a 1998 Toyota Camry northbound in the southbound lane of the interstate when he crashed head-on into a southbound 2012 Chevrolet Malibu.

At least two people were trapped in the wreckage and had to be extricated.

Chester was pronounced dead at the scene. 

A person in the Malibu, 68-year-old Wilma Lane of Emory, was airlifted to a regional hospital for treatment.

The Texas Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
