Veronica Rivera-Martinez and David Ramirez-Ramirez ID’d as Victims Killed in Laredo Crash on Interstate 35 near Mall del Norte

Laredo, Texas (August 22, 2019) – Authorities have identified the two people who were killed Sunday afternoon in a traffic accident in Laredo as Veronica Rivera-Martinez, 44, and David Ramirez-Ramirez, 49.

The fatal crash was reported at around 1:00 p.m. Sunday, August 18 on Interstate 35 near Mall del Norte.

According to the authorities, Juan Carlos Luco, 17, was driving a white 2018 Kia Optima on Interstate 35 when he failed to control his speed and changed lanes unsafely. The Kia collided with a gray 2018 Chevrolet Traverse and a beige 2001 Chevrolet Suburban.

The force of the impact caused the Suburban to overturn, ejecting the two occupants. One of the ejected victims, Rivera-Martinez, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

Ramirez-Ramirez was taken to Doctors Hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.

A 27-year-old woman and her two children, ages 4 and 3, were taken to Laredo Medical Center. Two other occupants of the Traverse were also transported to Doctors Hospital.

An investigation into the crash is underway.
