Man Killed in Galveston Pedestrian Accident at 23rd Street and Avenue J

Galveston, Texas (July 24, 2023) – A man on a wheelchair died after he was hit by a vehicle early Sunday morning in Galveston, according to the Galveston Police Department.

The deadly crash happened at around 12:08 a.m. Sunday, July 23 at the intersection of 23rd Street and Avenue J.

Witnesses told Galveston police that a white Hyundai sedan was heading westbound through the intersection when it struck the man who was seated in a wheelchair trying to cross the intersection in a northbound direction.

Emergency personnel responded to the scene and found the man lying in the road with severe injuries. He was transported to UTMB Health at Galveston, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The driver of the Hyundai stopped at the scene and cooperated with the police. Alcohol or drugs were not considered a factor in the crash.

The name of the victim has not been released pending notification of next of kin.

The crash remains under investigation.
