Whitney Weddel Killed in Bexar County Three-Vehicle Crash on Potranco Road; Giovanna Blangiardo Arrested

Bexar County, Texas – A 39-year-old woman was killed Thursday morning in a three-vehicle crash in west Bexar County, according to the deputies.

The fatal crash happened just before 5:00 a.m., February 8, in the 14000 block of Potranco Road.

Deputies said Giovanna Blangiardo, 35, was driving a Chevrolet SUV westbound when she veered into the eastbound lanes and crashed head-on into an eastbound Toyota SUV. An eastbound Nissan SUV swerved to avoid the Toyota but ended up crashing in between the two vehicles.

Blangiardo and the Toyota driver, 39-year-old Whitney Brooke Weddel, had to be extricated and were taken to the hospital where Weddel later died.

Weddel was a teacher in San Antonio.

Blangiardo was arrested and charged with intoxication manslaughter. She posted bond and was released from the Bexar County jail on Friday. Her bail had been set at $250,000.

The crash remains under investigation.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

There are many different reasons why automobile, pedestrian, 18-wheeler, bicycle, and motorcycle accidents occur, including driver negligence, driver inattention, texting and driving, speeding, fatigue, failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign, or private drive, running a red light, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. While the factors listed above are the main causes of most accidents, there may also be other factors involved, which is why it’s important that an investigation be conducted before evidence disappears, especially in cases involving a fatality.  At Joel A. Gordon & Associates, we will act quickly to secure accident scene photos, interview witnesses, obtain police records, and secure other valuable evidence needed to win your case.  Call now for a free consultation.
