Smith County, Texas (January 31, 2021) – One person was killed and another was injured in a two-vehicle crash Friday night in Smith County, about six miles northeast of Tyler, according to the DPS.

The fatal crash happened around 9:46 p.m., January 29, on Interstate 20.

According to a preliminary investigation, an SUV was traveling eastbound on the interstate at a low speed with its hazard light on because of a vehicle malfunction when it was struck by a truck-tractor towing a semi-trailer.

The SUV driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

A passenger in the SUV was taken to Tyler medical center in stable condition.

The crash remains under investigation.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

While there are many causes of car accidents, the most common reasons of driver negligence include driver inattention; cell phone use; texting and driving; speeding; fatigue; failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign or private drive; running a red light; and driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs,” Attorney Joel A. Gordon said. Mr. Gordon believes that an independent investigation is important. An Attorney will help obtain the crash report, secure accident photos, interview witnesses, and create a claim.
