One Killed in Austin Multi-Vehicle Crash on State Highway 71

Austin, Texas (August 22, 2022) – One person was killed Monday morning in a multi-vehicle crash in Austin, according to the authorities.

The fatal crash happened around 5:15 a.m., on State Highway 71.

Authorities said multiple vehicles were involved in a crash in the westbound lanes of the highway.

One person had to be extricated from a vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim’s identity has not been released.

Both directions of the highway were closed at Covered Bridge Drive.

Motorists were urged to use Southwest Parkway as an alternate route.

The crash remains under investigation.
