Newton, Texas (December 4, 2020) – One person was killed, and two others were injured in a two-vehicle crash Thursday morning in Newton County, according to troopers.

The fatal crash happened around 9:00 a.m., December 3, at the intersection of FM 2626 and Highway 87.

Troopers said a 2013 Dodge pickup truck was traveling northbound on SH 87 while a 2001 Nissan passenger vehicle was traveling westbound on FM 2626.

The Nissan failed to yield the right of way at the stop sign and pulled into the path of the Dodge. The Dodge then hit the left side of the Nissan.

The Nissan driver, William Hall, 68, of Newton, was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in the Nissan, Barney Simmons, 59, of Newton, was airlifted to St. Elizabeth Hospital with serious injuries.

The Dodge driver, Mason Garcilazo, 27, of Aransas Pass, Texas, was also airlifted to St. Elizabeth Hospital with serious injuries.

The troopers are investigating the crash.

We hope Barney Simmons and Mason Garcilazo recover quickly.

“When a person has suffered a grave personal injury in an accident due to someone else’s negligence, the most overwhelming emotion they feel is a sense of injustice. They often ask how such a life-altering event could have happened to them,” attorney Joel A. Gordon said. “The next question usually is, who can help me?” Mr. Gordon added.

A legal advocate can represent an injury victim or the family of a deceased victim. The attorney will file a claim on behalf of the victim and will have the responsibility of citing existing codes, laws or statutes which were violated.
