10-Year-Old Killed, 3 Critically Injured in Crash on US 281 at CR 116 in Corpus Christi

10-Year-Old Killed and Three Critically Injured in Corpus Christi Two-Vehicle Crash on US 281 and CR 116

Corpus Christi, Texas (May 18, 2023) – A child was killed, and three other people were critically injured Tuesday night in a two-vehicle crash in Corpus Christi, according to the Texas DPS.

The fatal crash happened around 10:08 p.m., May 16, at the intersection of North Highway 281 and County Road 116.

DPS said an 18-wheeler was traveling on US-281 in the outside lane while a GMC Terrain was traveling eastbound on CR-116.

The GMC failed to yield the right of way at the stop sign at the intersection and collided with the 18-wheeler.

The GMC driver was taken to Corpus Christi Spohn Shoreline, in Corpus Christi, with critical injuries.

The front seat passenger of the GMC was taken to Corpus Christi Spohn, in Alice, with critical injuries. Two rear-seat passengers, both children, were ejected from the vehicle. A 14-year-old was taken to Corpus Christi Spohn, in Alice, with critical injuries. A 10-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.

The DPS troopers are investigating the crash.
