2 Children Killed in Two-Vehicle Crash on FM 2661 in Smith County

Two Children Killed, 1 Child and 2 Adults Injured in Smith County Two-Vehicle Crash on FM 2661 at Highway 64

Smith County, Texas (July 15, 2022) – Two children were killed and three other people were injured on July 5 in a two-vehicle crash in Smith County, according to the DPS.

The fatal crash happened around 5:10 p.m., on FM 2661 at Highway 64 W.

DPS said a 2003 GMC Envoy was traveling northbound on FM 2661 while a Freightliner M2 was traveling northbound on Highway 64 W.

The GMC failed to yield the right of way and was struck on the driver’s side by the Freightliner.

A 13-year-old girl and an 8-year-old boy were killed in the crash. Their names have not been released.

An 11-year-old was taken to Children’s Health Medical Center – Dallas in serious condition. The GMC driver, a 32-year-old woman, and a 30-year-old passenger were taken to UT Health East Texas – Tyler in serious condition.

The DPS is investigating the crash.
