Two Off-Duty Deputies Seriously Injured in Houston Two-Vehicle Crash on Katy Freeway

Houston, Texas (October 3, 2022) – According to the deputies, two off-duty Harris County Sheriff’s Office deputies were seriously injured early Sunday morning in a two-vehicle crash in Houston.

The crash happened around 2:48 a.m., October 2, on the Katy Freeway.

Deputies said the officers were traveling in a Toyota 4Runner when they hit a wall near the Katy Freeway exit ramp. The impact caused the Toyota to spin around all the main lanes.

A red Corolla stopped to avoid the Toyota, but the SUV bounced off the HOV lanes and hit the Corolla.

Both deputies were ejected onto the freeway and were taken to Ben Taub Hospital in critical condition.

Alcohol was not a possible factor in the crash.

The crash closed the westbound lanes for five hours.

The crash remains under investigation.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

There are many different reasons why automobile, 18-wheeler, and motorcycle accidents occur, including driver negligence, driver inattention, texting and driving, speeding, fatigue, failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign, or private drive, running a red light, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. While the factors listed above are the main causes of most accidents, there may also be other factors involved, which is why it’s important that an investigation be conducted before evidence disappears, especially in cases involving a fatality.  At Joel A. Gordon & Associates, we will act quickly to secure accident scene photos, interview witnesses, obtain police records, and secure other valuable evidence needed to win your case.  Call now for a free consultation.
