48-Year-Old Man Killed in DWI Crash on West Loop South in Houston; Daija McElwee Arrested

48-Year-Old Man Killed in Houston Crash on West Loop South (IH-610); Daija McElwee Arrested

Houston, Texas (July 27, 2023) – According to the police, a man was killed early Saturday morning in a DWI crash in Houston.

The deadly accident happened around 2:15 a.m., July 22, in the 2500 block of West Loop South (West Interstate Highway 610 South).

Police said a white Toyota Tacoma pickup truck was traveling southbound. It stopped on the shoulder of the ramp to the northbound Eastex Freeway (North U.S. Highway 59), and the 48-year-old male passenger exited to change a flat tire.

A white Ford Mustang then struck the rear of the truck and the man.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not been released.

The female driver of the truck sustained minor injuries.

The Mustang driver, Daija Marche McElwee, 28, was detained at the scene and determined to be impaired. She was arrested and subsequently charged with intoxication manslaughter.

The police are investigating the crash.
