55 Hospitalized after Amarillo School Bus Crash at SE 2nd Avenue and Taylor Street

55 Injured in School Bus Accident at SE 2nd Avenue and Taylor Street in Amarillo
Amarillo, Texas (May 7, 2019) – Fifty-five people were hospitalized Monday morning after a traffic crash involving a pair of Sanford-Fritch Independent School District buses in downtown Amarillo, police said.
The wreck happened at about 9:08 a.m. Monday, May 6 at the intersection of SE 2nd Avenue and Taylor Street.
According to a local news source, the officers were stopped at the intersection waiting on the light. The officers observed a Sanford-Fritch school bus stopped at the red light at SE 2nd facing southbound on Taylor.
A second bus heading southbound in the 100 block was unable to stop in time and rear-ended the other bus.
According to the authorities, there were eighty-one passengers on the two buses when the accident occurred. Fifty-five of the occupants sustained non-life threatening injuries and were transported to area hospitals.
Both busses were towed away from the crash site.
The crash remains under investigation.
