Alberto Cruz, Emerlin Morales Injured in Fatal Car Crash on SH 63 in Van Zandt County

Alberto Cruz and Emerlin Morales Injured in Fatal Van Zandt County Two-Vehicle Crash on SH 63

Van Zandt County, Texas (December 31, 2020) – One person was killed, and four others were injured in a two-vehicle crash Wednesday evening in Van Zandt County, according to the Texas DPS.

The fatal crash happened on December 30, on SH 63.

According to a preliminary investigation, Anthony Scott Lester, 21, of Canton, was driving a 2012 Chevrolet Impala westbound on the highway while Alberto Cruz, 37, of Ben Wheeler, was driving a 2018 Toyota Tundra eastbound.

Lester crossed the center stripe and struck the Tundra.

Lester was pronounced at the scene.

Cruz was taken to the hospital where he was treated and released.

Three passengers, Emerlin Morales, 31 of Ben Wheeler, a 7-year-old and 3-year-old, were also taken to a Tyler hospital in stable condition.

The crash remains under investigation.
