Alma Rodriguez ID’d as Woman Killed in Gonzales Crash on U.S. 183 and FM 2067

Gonzales, Texas (August 30, 2022) – The woman who was killed Friday morning in a traffic accident near Gonzales has been identified as Alma Rodriguez, 55, of Bastrop.

The fatal crash occurred at around 10:45 a.m. Friday, August 26, at the intersection of U.S. 183 and FM 2067, about 12 miles south of Gonzales.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, Nathaniel Blackwell, 23, of Hallettsville, was driving a 2013 Mack truck-tractor hauling a 2019 Dragon semi-trailer and was trying to turn westbound onto FM 2067 while Alma Rodriguez was driving a 2019 GMC Denali southbound on U.S. 183 and approaching the intersection.

The truck-tractor failed to yield the right of way and turned in front of the oncoming Denali. The front left of the truck-tractor ultimately hit the Denali. The Denali flipped onto its left side and skidded into a bar ditch on the southwest corner of the intersection before coming to a stop, facing west. The truck-tractor stopped at the intersection.

Mrs. Rodriguez was pinned under the Denali and was extricated by firefighters. She was declared dead at the scene at 11:45 a.m. A passenger in the vehicle, identified as her husband, Ronney Rodriguez, 54, also of Bastrop, was taken to Gonzales Healthcare Systems in stable condition.

Blackwell did not suffer any injuries.

Road conditions were dry at the time of the crash.

DPS is investigating the accident.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

There are many different reasons why automobile, 18-wheeler, pedestrian, and motorcycle accidents occur, including driver negligence, driver inattention, texting and driving, speeding, fatigue, failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign or private drive, running a red light, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. While the factors listed above are the main causes of most accidents, there may also be other factors involved, which is why it’s important that an investigation be conducted before evidence disappears, especially in cases involving a fatality.  At Joel A. Gordon & Associates, we will act quickly to secure accident scene photos, interview witnesses, obtain police records, and secure other valuable evidence needed to win your case.  Call now for a free consultation.
