Lower Valley, Texas (August 26, 2023) – The passenger who died following a DUI crash early Saturday morning in the Lower Valley has been identified as 40-year-old Alondra Soriano Rojas of San Elizario.

According to El Paso Police, the crash happened just before 1:00 a.m. Saturday, August 26, at the intersection of Loop 375 East at Zaragoza.

Police said Cassandra Yolanda Hernandez, 26, of El Paso, was driving her vehicle eastbound on Loop 375 at a high rate of speed and was following behind another vehicle.

Hernandez reportedly crashed into the back end of the second vehicle, which slammed into the guard rail and rolled over before colliding with a metal pole.

Following the crash, Hernandez’s car spun out and burst into flames.

Rojas, who was riding as a passenger in the second vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the second vehicle, Dulce Rivera Soriano, 37, and another passenger, Paloma Soriano, 34, were both transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

Authorities determined that Hernandez was intoxicated at the time of the crash. She was arrested and booked into El Paso County Jail for intoxication and manslaughter.

Alcohol and speed were considered as factors in the crash.

An investigation is ongoing and no further information is available at this time.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

There are many different reasons why automobile, pedestrian, 18-wheeler, bicycle, and motorcycle accidents occur, including driver negligence, driver inattention, texting and driving, speeding, fatigue, failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign, or private drive, running a red light, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. While the factors listed above are the main causes of most accidents, there may also be other factors involved, which is why it’s important that an investigation be conducted before evidence disappears, especially in cases involving a fatality.  At Joel A. Gordon & Associates, we will act quickly to secure accident scene photos, interview witnesses, obtain police records, and secure other valuable evidence needed to win your case.  Call now for a free consultation.
