Barbara Ferrell and Elizabeth O’Brien Injured in Liberty County Bicycle Accident on Highway 787

Liberty County, Texas (November 3, 2021) – One person was killed, and two others were injured Saturday morning in a bicycle accident in Liberty County, according to the authorities.

The accident happened around 11:00 a.m., October 30, on Highway 787.

Authorities said the six bicyclists were riding eastbound when a 66-year-old man failed to maintain his speed and crashed into them in his Ford Escape.

The bicyclists, according to the deputies, were in an annual ride from San Diego, California to St. Augustine, Florida, when they were hit.

One of the cyclists, Kent Joshua Wosepka, 51, of South Hamilton, Massachusetts, was airlifted to a Beaumont hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries on Sunday.

Another cyclist, 54-year-old Elizabeth Anne O’Brien of Massachusetts, was taken to a Beaumont hospital with serious injuries. 

A third cyclist, 59-year-old Barbara Anne Ferrell of Santa Rosa, was airlifted to a Houston hospital with serious injuries.

The other cyclists were uninjured in the crash.

The Ford driver, Michael Weaver of Hardin County, was uninjured in the crash.

The authorities are investigating the crash.
