Benjamin Martinez Dies in Lubbock Bicycle Crash at North Detroit Avenue and Emory Street

Lubbock, Texas (June 24, 2019) – The bicyclist who was seriously injured Sunday night in a traffic accident in a Lubbock intersection has died.

The deadly crash happened at about 9:30 p.m. Sunday, June 23 at the intersection of North Detroit Avenue and Emory Street.

Police said Benjamin Martinez, 56, was riding his bicycle westbound towards the Lubbock intersection when he collided with a pickup truck that was turning a corner.

Martinez sustained serious injuries and was taken to UMC where he later succumbed to his injuries.

No further details were immediately available.

An investigation into the crash is underway.
