Teenage Girl Killed, 2 Injured in Texarkana Crash on Interstate 30 near Leary

Texarkana, Texas (November 6, 2021) – A teenage girl was killed and two other people were injured Thursday afternoon in a rear-end accident in Texarkana, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

At around 3:20 p.m. Thursday, November 4, authorities responded to Interstate 30, just west of Leary, to investigate the report of a traffic collision.

DPS said a 2021 Freightliner truck-tractor hauling a trailer was heading westbound on Interstate 30 in the right lane when it slowed down due to road construction.

A 2006 Jeep Liberty traveling behind the Freightliner failed to slow down and slammed into the rear end of the trailer.

According to the DPS, a female juvenile passenger in the Jeep was taken to a local hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries. Her name has not been disclosed pending notification of next of kin.

Another juvenile passenger in the Jeep was treated for their injuries and released. The Jeep driver was treated for minor injuries and released.

The operator of the Freightliner did not suffer any injuries in the collision.

The crash snarled traffic for several hours on Interstate 30.

No further details regarding the collision were immediately provided.

The accident remains under investigation.
