David Crooks Killed in Panola County Two-Vehicle Crash on Highway 149

Panola County, Texas (March 4, 2022) – One person was killed, and another was injured Thursday morning in a two-vehicle crash in Panola County, according to the DPS.

The fatal crash happened around 11:00 a.m., March 3, on Highway 149, west of Carthage.

DPS said David Crooks, 34, was driving a 1985 Chevrolet Silverado in the inside lane of the highway and was coming over the top of the hill. An 18-wheeler was also stopped in the inside lane, waiting to turn left into a private road.

Crooks then struck the back right of the 18-wheeler, and the Silverado came to a stop in the middle of the lanes.

Crooks was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 18-wheeler driver was taken to a Carthage hospital with non-incapacitating injuries.

No other details were provided.

The crash remains under investigation.
