Two Injured in Fannett Multi-Vehicle Crash on Interstate Highway 10

Fannett, Texas (May 11, 2023) – Two people were injured Wednesday afternoon in a multi-vehicle crash in Fannett, Jefferson County, according to the Texas DPS.

The crash happened around 4:30 p.m., May 10, on Interstate Highway 10 East near the 840-mile marker.

DPS said a Chevrolet Malibu and a GMC Yukon were traveling eastbound at an unsafe speed, and due to the weather, they both hydroplaned into the southbound ditch separately. Because of this, traffic became congested.

A Volvo truck tractor semi-trailer was also traveling at an unsafe speed and also traveled off the road into the southbound ditch, where it struck the Malibu and the Yukon.

The semi-trailer struck the driver of the Malibu, who was standing outside the vehicle.

The Malibu driver and their passenger were transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital for treatment.

The Yukon driver and the semi-trailer driver were uninjured in the crash.

The crash closed the eastbound lanes of the interstate near Smith Road.

The crash remains under investigation.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

There are many different reasons why automobile, pedestrian, 18-wheeler, bicycle, and motorcycle accidents occur, including driver negligence, driver inattention, texting and driving, speeding, fatigue, failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign, or private drive, running a red light, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. While the factors listed above are the main causes of most accidents, there may also be other factors involved, which is why it’s important that an investigation be conducted before evidence disappears, especially in cases involving a fatality.  At Joel A. Gordon & Associates, we will act quickly to secure accident scene photos, interview witnesses, obtain police records, and secure other valuable evidence needed to win your case.  Call now for a free consultation.
