Austin Redder Killed in Crosby County Pedestrian Accident on U.S. Highway 82

Crosby County, Texas (April 3, 2022) – A man was fatally hit by a vehicle early Friday morning in Crosby County, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The deadly accident happened around 4:20 a.m., April 1, on U.S. Highway 82, about seven miles east of Crosbyton.

DPS said Austin D. Redder, 26, of Lubbock, was driving a 2006 Hyundai Elantra westbound on the highway approaching a right curve when he traveled straight through the curve. He traveled into the grassy center median, took evasive action, crossed both lanes of travel, and hit a guardrail before coming to a rest on the roadway.

The Elantra was partially occupying both the improved shoulder and the right travel lane.

Redder exited his vehicle and was standing in the left lane when he was hit by a westbound 2016 Dodge Journey driven by Debrah Atkinson, 68, of Spur.

Redder was pronounced dead at the scene.

Atkinson was uninjured in the crash.

The DPS is investigating the crash.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

There are many different reasons why automobile, 18-wheeler, pedestrian, and motorcycle accidents occur, including driver negligence, driver inattention, texting and driving, speeding, fatigue, failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign or private drive, running a red light, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. While the factors listed above are the main causes of most accidents, there may also be other factors involved, which is why it’s important that an investigation be conducted before evidence disappears, especially in cases involving a fatality.  At Joel A. Gordon & Associates, we will act quickly to secure accident scene photos, interview witnesses, obtain police records, and secure other valuable evidence needed to win your case.  Call now for a free consultation.
