David Hanks Killed in Somervell County Two-Vehicle Crash at CR 308 and US 67

Somervell County, Texas (November 19, 2021) – A man was killed Wednesday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash in Somervell County, according to the Texas DPS.

The fatal crash happened around 3:20 p.m., November 17, at the intersection of County Road 308 and US Highway 67, east of Nemo.

DPS said David A. Hanks, 69, of Alvarado, was driving a 2012 Ford F150 pickup truck and was stopped at the intersection. The Ford attempted to cross US 67 and turn to travel eastbound, but it failed to yield the right-of-way to a westbound 2007 Peterbilt truck-tractor that was towing a semi-trailer. The Ford was then struck on the driver’s side by the truck tractor.

Hanks was taken to Texas Health Resources Hospital in Cleburne, but he later died.

The truck-tractor driver, William E. Parnell, 50, of Cleburne, was uninjured in the crash.

The DPS is investigating the crash.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

While there are many causes of car accidents, the most common reasons of driver negligence include driver inattention; cell phone use; texting and driving; speeding; fatigue; failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign or private drive; running a red light; and driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs,” Attorney Joel A. Gordon said. Mr. Gordon believes that an independent investigation is important. An Attorney will help obtain the crash report, secure accident photos, interview witnesses, and create a claim.
