David Simmons Killed in Freestone County Pedestrian Crash on Interstate Highway 45

Freestone County, Texas (June 5, 2021) – The pedestrian who was injured in a three-vehicle crash last week Friday in Freestone County has died, according to the troopers.

David Isaac Simmons, 35, of Fairfield, was pronounced dead on May 30.

The accident happened around 4:39 p.m., May 28, on IH-45.

Troopers said Simmons was driving a tow truck and was attempting to tow a vehicle in the center median with emergency lights activated.

A 22-year-old Houston woman was driving a 2020 Toyota Corolla in the inside lane toward the tow truck when it moved to the outside lane and changed lanes when it was unsafe.

The Toyota collided with a 2014 Volvo sedan driven by a 33-year-old Dallas woman.

The Volvo then crossed back into the inside lane, drove up the extended rollback, and went airborne while the Toyota struck Simmons as he was using the control box on the driver’s side.

Simmons was taken to Hillcrest Medical Center Waco, where he died on May 30.

The troopers are investigating the crash.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

While there are many causes of car accidents, the most common reasons of driver negligence include driver inattention; cell phone use; texting and driving; speeding; fatigue; failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign or private drive; running a red light; and driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs,” Attorney Joel A. Gordon said. Mr. Gordon believes that an independent investigation is important. An Attorney will help obtain the crash report, secure accident photos, interview witnesses, and create a claim.
