Denice Slaydon, Aaron Moore, and Devon Groll Injured in Kirbyville Two-Vehicle Crash on Highway 96 near Nichols Creek

Kirbyville, Texas (August 9, 2021) – According to the Texas DPS, five people, including two children, were injured Saturday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash just south of Kirbyville.

The crash happened on August 7, on Highway 96, near Nichols Creek, just north of Call Junction.

DPS said Denice Slaydon, 33, of Jasper, was driving a 2008 Chrysler van northbound on the highway while a 1996 Dodge pickup truck was traveling southbound.

The van hydroplaned, possibly due to heavy rains, and slid over into the southbound lane, where it struck the pickup truck.

Slaydon was taken to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont in critical condition. Two children, ages 4 and 3-years-old, who were riding in the van were taken to Houston area hospitals for treatment.

The occupants of the pickup, Aaron Moore, 43, and Devon Groll, 17, both from Jasper, were taken to Christus Jasper Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The troopers are investigating the crash.

“When a person has suffered a grave personal injury in an accident due to someone else’s negligence, the most overwhelming emotion they feel is a sense of injustice. They often ask how such a life-altering event could have happened to them,” attorney Joel A. Gordon said. “The next question usually is, who can help me?” Mr. Gordon added.

A legal advocate can represent an injury victim or the family of a deceased victim. The attorney will file a claim on behalf of the victim and will have the responsibility of citing existing codes, laws, or statutes which were violated.
