Man and 2 Children Injured in Robert Lee Two-Vehicle Crash on State Highway 208; Kenneth Eric Olsen Arrested

Robert Lee, Texas (July 3, 2020) – Three people, including two children, were injured Sunday night in a DUI crash in Robert Lee, according to authorities.

The crash happened around 9:15 p.m. on June 28, on State Highway 208.

Authorities said Kenneth Eric Olsen, 38, was driving a white pickup truck on the wrong side of the road when he crashed into a brown pickup truck.

The impact caused Olsen’s truck to roll onto its passenger side.

Olsen told investigators he had been drinking earlier and had been on his cellphone at the time of the crash. Numerous beer cans were found in and around his truck.

The driver of the brown truck and two children in Olsen’s truck were taken to Shannon Medical Center for treatment. Olsen was also hospitalized.

The driver of the brown truck had broken bones in his arms, ankles, and face, along with a broken vertebra while the children had broken pelvises and femurs.

Olsen was arrested on Wednesday on suspicion of three counts of intoxication assault with a vehicle resulting in serious bodily injury. He was being held at the Tom Green County Jail in lieu of a $105,000 bond.

The crash remains under investigation.

We hope the injured victims recover quickly.

In Texas, a driver is legally intoxicated after consuming alcohol if their blood alcohol content (BAC) is .08% or higher. A driver is also considered intoxicated if they don’t have the normal use of their mental or physical faculties by reason of the introduction of alcohol. Alcohol however is not the only intoxicant, as drivers can become intoxicated by ingesting prescription and illegal drugs such as crack, marijuana, and cocaine.

Regardless of what substance caused the driver’s reaction time to become significantly altered, intoxication by any means can cause terrible accidents and injuries.

Innocent victims harmed by drunk drivers are entitled to compensation for their injuries, including but not limited to medical expenses; lost wages; pain and suffering and mental anguish; physical impairment and disability; and most importantly, punitive damages to deter future conduct.

If you have been injured because of a drunk driver, you will want a knowledgeable accident lawyer to bring a  personal injury action against the drunk driver.
